About Ramp Industries

Ramp Industries started life in 1990 under the name Ramp Precision Tooling.

The company was formed by two brothers who had previously worked as machinists at Westland Helicopters and who established the Company to provide sub-contract engineering services to the aerospace industry.

Ramp expanded rapidly, with demand increasing for the high quality and service levels offered by Ramp attracting more customers. At this time the company began to develop expertise in the manufacture of aircraft ground support equipment.

In 1997, Ramp acquired Marsh & Garrett, a well known structural steelwork and fabrication company, an acquisition which would enable Ramp to fully manufacture larger and more complicated assemblies and diversify into gantries, working platforms, trolleys and other fabricated equipment.

By 2000 the continued growth of the company necessitated a move to larger premises necessary. Ramp moved to new premises on the Lynx Trading Estate near the entrance to Westland Helicopters, by now the company’s biggest customer.

The next year, Ramp established a paint shop and gained aerospace accreditation for the painting of aircraft equipment and accessories.

Ramp continued to develop with investment in machinery, systems, personnel and further diversification into other areas of aerospace manufacture.

This culminated in a change of company name in 2001 when Ramp Industries was born. The name reflects the more diverse range of processes available from the four business units.

    • - Ramp Precision Engineering
    • - Ramp Fabrication
    • - Ramp Spraying Services
    • - Ramp Industrial Sewing

In July 2004 Ramp Industries was acquired by an Engineering group with interests in the aerospace and automotive markets.

Today Ramp is the core business of the aerospace arm of the group and will continue to grow within this market, focussing particularly on aircraft ground support equipment.
